In Boulder, she taught at Martin Park Elementary School. She describes the handling by Martin Park/High Peaks elementary schools of the death of JonBenét Ramsey in 1996. She describes her work with diverse student populations (ESL students, special ed students), particularly in Martin Park Elementary School, and her deep fondness for her students and fellow teachers. She also describes living in Table Mesa and being married to a law enforcement officer.

In this interview, recorded in 2007, he talks about the origins and focus of JILA, including its strong emphasis on collaboration between scientists and its underlying organizational structure. He describes working at JILA, beginning in 1962, including talking about some of his and others’ research projects over the years. He reflects on the quality of the scientific work at JILA, which resulted in three Nobel Prizes within a four-year period. Other topics include the educational philosophy at the University of Colorado and within JILA, the scientific support shops at JILA, scientific innovation, and the building of the JILA tower. Toward the end of the interview, Dr. Hall displays and discusses a variety of lasers and other scientific instruments, then talks about the development of the career of fellow scientist Jun Ye.

Condon Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Colorado, describes his career as a scientist in general, and at JILA in particular. His work at JILA began when he was a post-doc in 1968. He discusses the development of JILA as a laboratory and the ways in which it has changed over time, including the evolution of the organization from the Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics to dropping that name and just retaining the initials JILA as the mission broadened and the organization has grown. He also lauds the spirit of cooperation and of excellence at JILA and the partnership of JILA with the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

She found herself questioning religious dogma from an early age and eventually was drawn to Buddhism after a trip to India during which she met the Dalai Lama. She talks about the place of Buddhism in her life including its central belief in the basic goodness of people, being a meditation instructor, the Boulder Shambhala Center, the ways in which Buddhism is not what is traditionally thought of as a religion but rather a body of teachings and practices that invite questioning, and the impact of sexual harassment accusations in the Buddhist community. She also talks about studying with Lakota Sioux spiritual leader Howard Badhand and about her interest in Judaism.
