This collection holds manuscripts, papers and printed materials incl. pamphlets, leaflets, archivally photocopied newspaper clippings, and reports, compiled for the Boulder Historical Society by Alva Paddock and his son Laurence at the Boulder (Colo.) Daily Camera.

These materials document most aspects of life in the community, esp. 1930s-1970s. They pertain to individuals, businesses, public institutions, and subjects covered by the Camera during those years.

RIGHTS: The historic photographs and documents, with the Source BHS, belong to the Boulder Historical Society/Museum of Boulder and require attribution when used. These items are on permanent loan to the Carnegie Library for Local History. No duplicated materials may be deposited, or placed on file in any other archive, museum, library or similar repository. Questions of copyright are the responsibility of the user.

As a founder and the first president of the Boulder Historical Society, Alva A. Paddock was the conduit for many materials donated to the Society, including these materials. His son Laurence Paddock continued to acquire historical materials on behalf of the Boulder Historical Society.
On 2 Jan. 1986, Laurence Paddock signed a gift agreement confirming that custody of the archival portion of the A. A. Paddock collection had been transferred to the City of Boulder's Carnegie Branch Library for Local History. On 20 Jan. 1989, Mr. Paddock signed a second agreement confirming the Daily Camera's intention to turn over the files in its library to the A. A. Paddock collection of the Boulder Historical Society at the Carnegie Branch and/or main Boulder Public Library.
The materials described by Laurence Paddock in his agreement dated 20 Jan. 1989 included "a volume of clippings, photographs and negatives and ephemera largely dating from the 1930s into the 1970s but including some materials from both before and after those decades." The materials had hitherto been stored in filing cabinets in the Daily Camera's private library. Photos were stored in the same files as the clippings and other printed materials.

This collection is on permanent loan from the Boulder Historical Society.
NOTE: Ten boxes of information pertaining to City and County of Boulder government have not been completely organized and cataloged. They will be inserted near Boxes 40-44.
