Kay Cook and Doug Burger relate their experiences during the 2013 Boulder flood. Kay and Doug were living in the small mountain community of Salina, Colorado, at the time. They describe the way their experience of the flood unfolded as cars, houses and all their possessions washed away. They describe the way they had to evacuate multiple times to move to safer ground, including a challenging rescue by zip line across the raging creek waters. They discuss the losses they faced, the beauty and power of the flood, and the power of community support, which they felt throughout from both strangers and friends.

George Gerstle, the director of the Boulder County Transportation Department, discusses the condition of county roads as a result of the September 2013 floods. He identifies county roads and bridges that experienced significant damage and discusses the immediate and long-term response to reconstruct and reroute them. He also discusses bicycle traffic, emergency response, utilities repairs, and construction cost, and a county website that was set up to provide residents with timely, needed information.

Rescue Squad Officer Jen Bevan talks about what they are trained to do, what comprises a team, and their search and rescue experience during and after the Boulder Flood of 2013. Structural Specialist Robert Conrad describes the damage in Lefthand Canyon and discusses what is involved in rebuilding roads. Niko King talks about their training, the special equipment with which they travel, how they interface with local personnel, and the timeliness of their recently completed search-operation training in a water environment.
