Joyce Davies discusses the history of her involvement with the League of Women Voters and how that involvement led her to join and lead other civic organizations. Joyce grew up near Providence, Rhode Island, went to college in Rhode Island, and taught school for about 10 years. When she married and moved to Boulder with her husband, she ended her teaching career and redirected her efforts to her family and the Boulder community. Joyce served with the League of Women Voters and soon became involved in the open space issues of the late 1950s and early 1960s. She served twice as president of the League. She also became involved in historic preservation and became a co-founder of Historic Boulder. She served on that board as well as on the city planning board. Joyce speaks of the friendships she formed with such politically-involved women as Ruth Wright, Janet Roberts and Ruth Correll through her work with the League and her continued involvement, at age 84, with unit meetings of the League at Frazier Meadows to discuss the issues of the day.

Also, an invitation to a program and tea at the home of Mrs. George Norlin, from the Fine Arts Committeee of the Woman's Club.

Deborah Hayes has been a prominent member of the League of Women Voters. She describes her early introduction and involvement with the League due to her mother being a member when she was growing up in California. Ms. Hayes joined the League after graduate school when she came to Boulder to teach at CU, and has been involved with the organization ever since. She describes studying and taking positions on civic issues, as well as educating the public about issues and candidates, as important aspects of the League's work. As a past president, she discusses the league's mission ("informed citizen participation in government") and its activities over the years. Ms. Hayes describes the changes that have taken place at the League in recent years including the admission of men as members, somewhat diminished ernollment, and the use of the Internet and a League Web site to communicate with members and with the public. Lastly, she talks about some of the accomplishments of the Boulder League during her years of involvement and relates some personal ancedotes.
