Deborah Hayes has been a prominent member of the League of Women Voters. She describes her early introduction and involvement with the League due to her mother being a member when she was growing up in California. Ms. Hayes joined the League after graduate school when she came to Boulder to teach at CU, and has been involved with the organization ever since. She describes studying and taking positions on civic issues, as well as educating the public about issues and candidates, as important aspects of the League's work. As a past president, she discusses the league's mission ("informed citizen participation in government") and its activities over the years. Ms. Hayes describes the changes that have taken place at the League in recent years including the admission of men as members, somewhat diminished ernollment, and the use of the Internet and a League Web site to communicate with members and with the public. Lastly, she talks about some of the accomplishments of the Boulder League during her years of involvement and relates some personal ancedotes.

Joyce Davies discusses the history of her involvement with the League of Women Voters and how that involvement led her to join and lead other civic organizations. Joyce grew up near Providence, Rhode Island, went to college in Rhode Island, and taught school for about 10 years. When she married and moved to Boulder with her husband, she ended her teaching career and redirected her efforts to her family and the Boulder community. Joyce served with the League of Women Voters and soon became involved in the open space issues of the late 1950s and early 1960s. She served twice as president of the League. She also became involved in historic preservation and became a co-founder of Historic Boulder. She served on that board as well as on the city planning board. Joyce speaks of the friendships she formed with such politically-involved women as Ruth Wright, Janet Roberts and Ruth Correll through her work with the League and her continued involvement, at age 84, with unit meetings of the League at Frazier Meadows to discuss the issues of the day.

Patricia Johnson is a past president of the League of Women Voters of Boulder County who was finance director for the League at the time of this interview. She discusses the League's goals of civics education, issues advocacy, and educating women for the political process. She also talks about the structure of the League and current challenges being faced by the organization, and describes some of the specific issues on which the Boulder County League has worked.

Elizabeth Black has been president of the League of Women Voters of Boulder Valley, as well as head of voter services and membership secretary. In this interview she describes her involvement in the organization from the perspective of each of those roles, plus she discusses issues such as changes in membership, the impact of the Internet on the organizaiton, leadership training provided by the League, and dual missions of voter education and issues advocacy that form the basis of League activities.

Former mayor of Longmont, Leona Stoecker, discusses her extensive history of public service, as well as the important role that the League of Women Voters played in her growth as a community advocate. Other community involvement that is touched upon includes the Longmont Water Board, the Boulder County Planning Commission, her campaign for the state legislature, and the Longmont "Goose Project".
