Jamestown, Colorado, resident Martine Amadé speaks about her experience during the September 2013 flood. She talks about her family’s evacuation to the Jamestown School, being airlifted out by helicopter, and her stay in Boulder while her husband repaired their house. She describes the damage to Jamestown, reconstruction of houses and the town, and the many ways townspeople helped each other and pulled together. He explains various aspects of the flood, such as what is behind the nomenclature of calling it a 100-year flood or a 1000-year rain. He describes the devastation he observed in Jamestown and praises the efforts of Jamestown mayor Tara Schoedinger and the resiliency of the town's residents. He reflects on the importance of journalism during such an event; on things he would have done differently, with hindsight, including making better use of social media; and on the importance of historical ducments, such as oral histories, in helping journalists to do their work.
