Bruce Honeyman was the fire chief for the Sunshine Fire Protection District during the Fourmile Canyon Fire of 2010. He tells about fighting the fire for a solid day-and-a-half without sleep and protecting homes in the Fourmile Canyon area while fifty-nine homes in Sunshine Canyon burned, including his house and houses of other firefighters with whom he worked. In addition to a detailed description of how the fire was fought, he tells about the aftermath of the fire: visiting his burned-out homesite and what it took to pick up and go on with life, including finding housing, battling with his insurance company, helping his son resume school, and rebuilding his house. He talks about how he learned what is truly useful to those who have been through a traumatic experience and how friends from the Sunshine community pulled together and helped out.
