This recording contains interviews with Jennifer Bevan and Robert Conrad from Utah Task Force 1 search and rescue team and Niko King, who works with an Incident Support Team. Rescue Squad Officer Jen Bevan talks about what they are trained to do, what comprises a team, and their search and rescue experience during and after the Boulder Flood of 2013. Structural Specialist Robert Conrad describes the damage in Lefthand Canyon and discusses what is involved in rebuilding roads. Niko King talks about their training, the special equipment with which they travel, how they interface with local personnel, and the timeliness of their recently completed search-operation training in a water environment.

Dave Sutherland, interpretive naturalist with Boulder's Open Space and Mountain Parks, shares his experience of, and insights into, the September 2013 flood. He describes how the flood affected him and his home, and how various parts of the city and community were impacted, in both physical and personal ways. He describes the process of assessing trail damage, the closure and subsequent repair of trails, and the various ways in which the Boulder community responded. Dave describes how geologic and ecosystem change are inevitable and natural. He discusses consideration of natural processes and reading the clues of the landscape before making decisions to build in an area.

Larry Sturgeon discusses his work in conducting housing inspections after the Boulder flood of September 2013. He discusses a range of subjects including the declaration of a federal disaster, the role of FEMA in nationally declared disasters, and the elements of an inspection. He details the complete inspection process from efforts to contact those who've applied for assistance to giving examples of what he looks for as he walks through the damaged home. He explains how technology has improved the efficiency of responding to disasters. He talks of the importance of listening to victims stories and of being prepared to respond to urgent needs of victims. He relates stories of experiences he's had working other disasters (Superstorm Sandy, Hurricane Charlie). He speaks not only of the devastating effect on disaster victims, but the heartwarming community responses to disasters, and the kind treatment he's received in doing his work.

Cindy Domenico, Chair of the Boulder County Commissioners, talks about both the Flood of 2013 and flood recovery efforts six months after the flood. She discusses the extent of the damage caused by the flood, details the recovery work that has been done and that still needs to be done, talks about the economics of flood recovery, and gives contacts for resources available to those who need assistance.
