Description
This collection contains two volumes that hold 59 early photographs of the city of Boulder, Colo. "Rocky Mountain Joe" Sturtevant, Boulder's pioneer photographer, took most of them; some of the earliest photos were taken by an unidentified photographer. Volume 1 contains 40 views of Boulder, ca. 1872-1903; most of these are street views. Volume 2 contains 19 photos, of the Boulder Chautauqua and the nearby landscape, dating from 1899 through 1925, but mostly ca. 1899-1902.

The stone house at 2245 15th Street is in the foreground and the Squires-Tourtellot house at 1019 Spruce is in the mid-distance. The first Congregational Church building at 1125 Pine Street and the Colorado House hotel at the corner of Pearl at 13th Street can also be seen along with the foundation for the Methodist Church., Also visible are J.P. Maxwell house at 1235 Pine, A.J. Macky house at 1201 Pine, Tourtellot house at 1209 1/2 Spruce, house at 1201 which later became the Boulder City Club, and the house at 1305 Pine.
