Description
ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Two-story red brick building with hipped roof with flared, overhanging eaves. Wood cornice. Small front dormer with shaped gable has decorative cast stone coping and window surround with tabs, as well as stone sill with bands of brick underneath. Central, paneled and glazed double doors with multi-light transom. Upper story has 1/1 double-hung windows with rusticated stone lintels and narrow stone still course., Above entrance is sign reading "B.F.D. No. 2." Two single door entrances flank double door entrance and have paneled and glazed doors with heavy stone lintels. Symmetrical facade., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This building is significant for its association with the growth and development of the fire.department in Boulder and with the University Hill neighborhood. The building was erected in 1908 and was utilized by the fire department of 50 years. The building maintains high historic integrity and reflects both the Foursquare style popular during the early twentieth century in the U.S. and the technical aspects of firefighting during the same period., STYLE : Foursquare., DATE BUILT : 1908., DESIGNATION : Local landmark, National Register eligible.
