Mark Ruzzin, who was mayor of Boulder from 2004 to 2007, focuses his interview on his years of public service in Boulder, including his initial involvement with neighborhood issues in Boulder, as a member of the city's planning board, a city council member, and finally, mayor. Ruzzin stresses that as mayor, he strove for a collaborative, inclusive process in his relationships with other coucil members, city staff, and the public at large. He recalls passage of the city's Climate Action Plan and the process of using "sustainability filters" as major achievements. He also discusses the Transit Village, Valmont Butte, and the 29th St. Mall.

Leslie Durgin served as a city council member and mayor of Boulder between 1989-1997. She was mayor during the building of the new NOAA/NIST facility, the JonBenét Ramsey murder, and the creation of the Youth Advisory Board. She discusses her interest in health and human services and her desire to give a voice to underrepresented groups in Boulder. She talks about the controversy surrounding her appointment, how she viewed the role of the mayor and the operation of the city government, and how these things have changed over the years. She reflects on her years of service, the issues with which the city council dealt during her tenure, and commenting on her best decisions and achievments.

Jim Bowers, former planning director (1966-1967) and city council person (1967-1971) speaks about his time in both of these positiions. This period was marked by riots stemming from opposition to the Vietnam War and changes in the social and political attitudes of many young people, which Bowers recalls. On the other hand, Bowers also recalls his time on city council as having been a relaitvely peaceful and congenial time amongst the council members themselves as well as with the general citizenry and other entitites such as Boulder County, the Federal government and the Boulder Valley School District. One exception he speaks of at length was an episode in which threats were made to the lives of council members over consideration of the removal of the lighted cross and star on Flagstaff Mountain. He also tells about serving on the RTD board of directors for twelve years beginning with the creation of RTD in 1969.
