Eleanor Montour, whose mother founded Clinica Campesina, talks about her family and her life growing up in Lafayette, Colorado. She describes what it was like for her grandfather and father working in the fields and mines. She also discusses the racism and discrimination that she experienced in junior high school and high school. She explains why her mother started Clinica Campesina, details her mother's involvement wtih the community, and her philosophy of the importance of health care, education, and speaking out for what is right. She also talks about her own 30-year career at Clinica, her involvement with the school that was named after her mother (Sanchez Elementary), and her own present-day multicultural family.

Dee Demmon, at the age of 100, was interviewed by students from Whittier Elementary School about her own elementary school years at Mapleton Elementary School. She recalls that the teachers and principal were very strict, which led to good behavior and effective learning. She describes using the fire escape for fire drills and games that children played at that time; she also talks about friends that she had in elementary school and her favorite subject, geography. She shows a photograph of the students who attended Mapleton with her.

Esther Romero attended Whittier Elementary School from second grade (in 1944) until sixth grade. She tells about some of her favorite teachers, and relates an anecdote that illustrates the strictness of Principal Jessie Fitzpatrick. She also tells about Christmas parties at school, a field trip students took to Macky Auditorium to see Swan Lake, and buying Victory Stamps during World War II.

Jimmie Shook, born in Texas during the Depression, begins his interview by describing his childhood on a farm, including memories of his school experiences. He then talks about his four years of military service. After serving in the military, he became an elementary school teaacher and then an administrator, working in Weld County and in New Mexico before moving to Boulder and working for the Boulder Valley School District in schools such as Whittier Elementary and Martin Park Elementary. He reflects on the various schools in which he taught, teaching philosophy, and administrative styles, while telling numerous illustrative anecdotes.

Joseph F. Stepanek was enrolled at Whittier Elementary School for fifth and sixth grade, from 1953 until 1955. In this interview, which was conducted by current Whittier fourth graders, Joe recalls the two teachers he had, his classmates and friends, and how his time at Whittier impacted his adult life. He talks about his travels to Indonesia and Burma as a child and shows the autobiography he has written. He also describes some of the changes that both the school and the city of Boulder have undergone since he was a young man.
