Description
Alfred Howe, referred to as Bart in this interview, talks about his life in Boulder County and his career at IBM and StorageTek. Originally from Oklahoma, he and his wife Mary moved to the Boulder area in 1970, drawn in part by their love of the outdoors. He mentions some of the changes that he has witnessed over the 45 years that he's lived in the area, such as population growth and changes in the sports programs at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He praises the area's excellent school system and says that he enjoys the cultural entertainment opportunities in a university town. He discusses the inner workings of IBM and StorageTek, comparing them as companies and discussing the tension between the two companies initially until competition decreased as they began moving in different directions. He reflects on the Vietnam War and discusses how and why his ideas about that war changed over time. He speculates that the future will bring issues around water scarcity and fracking to Colorado.

This folder contains a list of the Carnegie Branch Library's call numbers for photographs, as well as photocopies of those photographs, that were used on the Pearl Street Mall historic panels., In June 2001, the City of Boulder hired Silvia Pettem to pick twelve themes, select the photos, and write captions for these panels. Dave Tweed of Communication Arts (a Boulder graphics firm) was hired to do the layout and design. The panels were completed on July 17, 2003., The twelve themes (in order from 11th Street to 15th Street) are: (1) Pearl & 11th, (2) Pearl Street: Mud to Mall, (3) Colorful Characters, (4) Downtown Buildings & Businesses, (5) The 19th-Century Child, (6) Horse-drawn Vehicles & Liveries, (7) Boulder County Courthouses, (8) Mining & Agriculture, (9) Boulder's Railroads: Providing a Sense of Place, (10) The University & The Town, (11) Culture, Health & Tourism, and (12) 1400 Block of Pearl.

A panorama in two parts and a view, both of the downtown area of Boulder taken from Sunset Hill looking toward Flagstaff Mountain. The stone house at 2245 15th Street is in the foreground and the Squires-Tourtellot house at 1019 Spruce is in the mid-distance. The first Congregational Church building at 1125 Pine Street and the Colorado House hotel at the corner of Pearl at 13th Street can also be seen along with the foundation for the Methodist Church., Also visible are J.P. Maxwell house at 1235 Pine, A.J. Macky house at 1201 Pine, Tourtellot house at 1209 1/2 Spruce, house at 1201 which later became the Boulder City Club, and the house at 1305 Pine.

Description
Paul Aiken, photo editor at the Daily Camera, shares his experiences and observations of the September 2013 flood in Boulder County. He describes the challenges related to traveling in dangerous flood conditions in order to capture photos to publish in the Daily Camera. He discusses some experiences that varioius team members had, especially in trying to reach some of the mountain towns. He offers insights about journalism in general and the photojournalism in particular. He talks about the extent of the flood damage and the resilience of people as they coped with the disaster. Lastly, he tells the stories behind some of the photos published in the book published by the Daily Camera, which is tltled "A Thousand Year Rain: The Historic Flood of 2013 in Boulder and Larimer Counties", and reflects on some of the individuals and families who were greatly affected by the severe flooding.
