ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Historic photographs indicate that the facade of this building has been changed. The building, which has a hipped roof, originally featured a center cupola, now removed. The building historically had a center, one-bay open porch with squared fluted columns. Original facade windows were segmental-arched 2/2. The building now features a full-width front porch with squared fluted columns resting on brick porch wall; wooden arches between columns., "New" facade windows are double-hung with flat arches, rusticated stone sills and lintels. Bay window on east. Segmental arched windows on sides. Historic iron fence., STYLE : Vernacular Masonry, Hipped Roof., DATE BUILT : 1878., DESIGNATION : National Register eligible., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Located in Boulder's Highland Lawn neighborhood, the Hannah Barker house is one of Boulder's oldest residences. The building is significant for its associations with Boulder pioneers Ezra and Hannah Barker as well as Mary Davidson, with whom Hannah Barker travelled to Colorado in the 1860s. Although the facade has been changed, the remodeling appears to have taken place during the time the house was owned by either Hannah Barker or Mary Davidson., The residence, which is a visual landmark in the Highland Lawn neighborhood, is an excellent example of Boulder's early upper middle class housing. The building has squared and fluted porch columns, rusticated stone window sills and lintels, and a bay window. The building's original cupola has been removed, although the base is still visible.
