Lynne Wegley was the president of the League of Women Voter of Boulder County at the time of this interview, as well as having been president of the organization from 1989-1991. She speaks about the dual missions of the League, namely educating voters and taking action on issues that the League has studied and for which it has taken a position. She itemizes some of the issues on which the Boulder County League has been involved. She also discusses the role the president, issues surrounding membership, and the effects that changes in technology have had on the operation of the League. Finally, she mentions some of the topics that she hypothesizes may engage the League in the future.

Gail Rowe has been a League of Women Voters member in both Lexington, Kentucky, and in Boulder. She describes the many contributions of the League in the areas of public education, skill-and-confidence-building for women, and as an entryway for women into politics. She gives examples of League work on local and state political issues, including reform of both the judicial retention system and the Colorado constitution. She discusses the history of the League, from its beginnings to the inclusion of men. Finally, she reflects on the effect the League has had on her own life.

Joyce Davies discusses the history of her involvement with the League of Women Voters and how that involvement led her to join and lead other civic organizations. Joyce grew up near Providence, Rhode Island, went to college in Rhode Island, and taught school for about 10 years. When she married and moved to Boulder with her husband, she ended her teaching career and redirected her efforts to her family and the Boulder community. Joyce served with the League of Women Voters and soon became involved in the open space issues of the late 1950s and early 1960s. She served twice as president of the League. She also became involved in historic preservation and became a co-founder of Historic Boulder. She served on that board as well as on the city planning board. Joyce speaks of the friendships she formed with such politically-involved women as Ruth Wright, Janet Roberts and Ruth Correll through her work with the League and her continued involvement, at age 84, with unit meetings of the League at Frazier Meadows to discuss the issues of the day.

This recording is of a discussion by a panel of eight women who were being honored as life-members of the League of Women Voters - members with 50 years or more of League involvement. The women spoke of their experiences with the League and their work on a range of issues, including the environment, land use planning, civil rights, education, and the Equal Rights Amendment. The panelists credited the League with being an organization that provided numerous intellectual and activist opportunities for women, especially during the years when such opportunities were not as plentiful as they are in 2012. The League was described as an incubator for helping women gain skills, confidence and experience needed to enter public affairs, as was the Boulder Public Office for Women, which is also cited. The speakers included: Elizabeth Bramhall, Joyce Davies, Jean Haywood, Louise Lindsey, Anne Norwood, Beverly Sabin, Joanne Turner, and Jane Volckhausen.

Deborah Hayes has been a prominent member of the League of Women Voters. She describes her early introduction and involvement with the League due to her mother being a member when she was growing up in California. Ms. Hayes joined the League after graduate school when she came to Boulder to teach at CU, and has been involved with the organization ever since. She describes studying and taking positions on civic issues, as well as educating the public about issues and candidates, as important aspects of the League's work. As a past president, she discusses the league's mission ("informed citizen participation in government") and its activities over the years. Ms. Hayes describes the changes that have taken place at the League in recent years including the admission of men as members, somewhat diminished ernollment, and the use of the Internet and a League Web site to communicate with members and with the public. Lastly, she talks about some of the accomplishments of the Boulder League during her years of involvement and relates some personal ancedotes.
