ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION:Three-story building composed of unsplit fieldstone; first story is composed of large pieces of stone; upper two stories composed of smaller pieces of stone. Concrete belt course. Flat roof with stepped parapet on facade which has concrete coping. Cast stone trim and decorative shield on facade. Band of five 2-light windows on second story of facade., Central entrance has large segmental arch with vertical stone voussoirs. Third story windows on side elevations have segmental arches with stone lintels. Cast stone window sills. Triangular vents on side elevation roof. Stone chimney. Concrete water table., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This building is significant for its association with the Colorado National Guard. It was erected in 1915-16 as the armory for the local units in Boulder. The building is also significant for its fieldstone construction and its massive and substantial composition. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Large painted brick building with hipped roof with overhanging eaves. Hipped roof, shingled dormers; two with paired double-hung windows on right, large dormer with band of six double-hung windows on left of facade. Central, gabled, slightly projecting entrance bay with oval window in upper gable end. Central entrance with segmental arched transom and sidelights has blocks of cast stone forming surround and elaborate crown with urns topped by multi-light, Windows. Wing to left of central bay has three French doors topped by large round arched transoms. One-story gabled entrance bay on west has paneled door and transom. Terrace in front of building has red brick piers and concrete base. Painted brick chimney on east., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This building is associated with the growth and development of fraternities accociated with the University of Colorado. It was built as the chapter house for the Delta Tau Delta fraternity in 1921. The Eclectic style of the house was popular during the early twentieth century in the United States and is reflected in the hipped roof, ornamented entrance, roof dormers, and variety of windows., DATE BUILT: 1921., STYLE: Eclectic., ORIGINAL OWNER: Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
