This interview is part of a series about a series of football games called the Hairy Bacon Bowl that took place between University of Colorado students with counterculture leanings on the one hand, and campus and city police officers on the other hand, as a way to address those tensions. Bill Robbins, who was a campus police officer from 1968 to 1972, helped organize and played in the first two of these games. He brings the perspective of having been a Vietnam veteran and an older college student, as well as a campus police officer. He describes coming up with the idea for the games due to his desire to improve communications between the student and police groups, what it was like to play in the games, and how he thinks they were successful in their goal. He also talks about being on the police side of anti-war and other protests, hippies in town during that era, the sense of danger he sometimes experienced as a police officer, and his philosphy of how to defuse tense situations.

Richard Hayward has lived in Boulder since 1956. In this interview he describes his early life in Terre Haute, Indiana; his service in the Navy; and his move to Boulder soon after his marriage to Beth Hayward. Active in the First United Methodist Church since his arrival in Boulder, Richard has remodeled, upgraded, spearheaded additions to, and maintained many of the church buildings and the church-owned buildings in the surrounding neighborhood. He details the uses of the various buildings and the work done to improve their safety and usefulness.
