This recording is of a talk given by folkorist Phyllis Harrison-Brose to volunteers for the Boulder Library's oral history program in 1986. The speaker discusses differences between oral history interviewing and folklore research, how the practice of oral history interviewing has developed over time, techniques for successful interviewing, how to overcome common challenges and pitfalls, and issues of transcription and archiving. The recording also includes a performance of an amusing skit that illustrates how NOT to conduct an oral history interview.

After winning gold in the 1972 Munich Olympic marathon, Frank Shorter went on to inspire the development of the sport of running in America and co-founded the Bolder Boulder 10K race. In this interview he discusses the effects on runners of training at altitude, training for the Olympic marathon at the University of Colorado, characteristics of the Boulder running community, founding of the Bolder Boulder, and the rise of exercise science. He talks about his various career involvements, including his ten-year running career; the running stores he owned; his work in broadcast journalism, covering the Olympics and other running events; forming and chairing the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency; and his current work with the Healthy Learning Paths curriculum for children.

Lisa Tedesco worked as the employee relations advisor in the Department of Facilities Management at CU Boulder, from 1984 to 1988. She discusses addressing the needs of recent immigrants with regard to English skills, learning about job expectations, understanding cultural differences, dealing with medical issues, and helping them feel a part of the community by, for example, producing a multi-lingual newsletter. In 1988, she began working for the Department of Employee Development. She also talks about her work with Boulder Friends of International Students.

Marilyn Pinsker is a founding member of Congregation Bonai Shalom in Boulder and an active member in the Jewish education community. She talks about her childhood in New York City, where she grew up in a secular Jewish family whose experience was colored by her father's experiences with anti-Semitism. After her marraige to Jerry Pinsker in 1973, they moved away from New York and settled in Boulder. She details both her personal growth as a member of the Jewish community in Boulder - learning about Judaism and becoming increasingly active in living a Jewish life - and the growth of the Boulder Jewish community overall. She characterizes the Boulder Jewish community as one that is unusually diverse while also being remarkably cooperative between branches of Judaism.
