Richard Jessor, longest serving professor in the history of the University of Colorado at Boulder, describes his varied experiences in Boulder and at the university from 1951 through to the year of this interview in 2013, his academic achievements, the rewarding and the challenging situations he encountered with university administration, and his work representing the CU faculty. He was one of the founding members of the Institute of Behavioral Science at the university; he describes its inception,the creative ways in which funding for the Institute was secured, and how it is a model for an interdisciplinary approach in sciences. In addition to his work at the university, he speaks of his passion for rock climbing and mountaineering, and details an arduous and ultimately successful mountain rescue in which he took part.
