Downtown Boulder Association newsletters from 1972-81 are in f.24; other printed materials by and about the D.B.A. are in f.23; a 1984 draft of the downtown Boulder plan is in f.24.

This envelope contains a map and directory of the downtown (Pearl Street) Boulder mall, the 5th anniversary edition (5-7 August 1982) of the magazine promoting sales on the mall which was opened in 1977, and a listing of movies scheduled at the Art Cinema on the mall between 13th and 14th Streets, ca. 1982.

David Bolduc and Richard Foy describe their involvement in the initiation of the first farmers market in Boulder, which took place on the courthouse lawn in the mid-1970s before the Pearl Street Mall was built. Starting the market involved calling and visiting small-scale farmers and even families growing fruit and vegetables in their backyards to encourage them to sell their produce outside the courthouse. Bolduc and Foy stress that their motivation in working on this project was their desire to enhance community feeling and promote revitalization of the downtown area at a time when commercial activity was moving to the Crossroads Shopping Center area. In time, the running of the farmers market was taken over by farmers like Robert Munson, while Bolduc and Foy became involved in the design and construction of the Pearl Street Mall. Bolduc and Foy close out their interview with a general discussion of the importance of maintaining the tradition of locally grown food as environmentally appropriate in a time of climate change.

This folder contains a list of the Carnegie Branch Library's call numbers for photographs, as well as photocopies of those photographs, that were used on the Pearl Street Mall historic panels., In June 2001, the City of Boulder hired Silvia Pettem to pick twelve themes, select the photos, and write captions for these panels. Dave Tweed of Communication Arts (a Boulder graphics firm) was hired to do the layout and design. The panels were completed on July 17, 2003., The twelve themes (in order from 11th Street to 15th Street) are: (1) Pearl & 11th, (2) Pearl Street: Mud to Mall, (3) Colorful Characters, (4) Downtown Buildings & Businesses, (5) The 19th-Century Child, (6) Horse-drawn Vehicles & Liveries, (7) Boulder County Courthouses, (8) Mining & Agriculture, (9) Boulder's Railroads: Providing a Sense of Place, (10) The University & The Town, (11) Culture, Health & Tourism, and (12) 1400 Block of Pearl.

Photographs of the 1919 Silver Jubilee parade in Boulder. The photographs show the 1200 block of Pearl Street looking west and include shops, decorated vehicles, spectators, and American flags. Photo 2 has a note written on the back that reads "On car: Kite Glacier Route." Photo 4 has a note written on the back that reads "Wagon: Black Diamond Coal. 1917."

These folders contain archivally photocopied clippings and newspaper advertising supplements about annual sales events of downtown Boulder (Colo.) merchants., The Camera published a special advertising section each year for the Old Fashioned Bargain Days which occurred at the same time as the Pow Wow Rodeo. There often was a city-wide sidewalk sale with stores open on Thursday and Friday evenings until 9 p.m. The dates of some of these special publications were: 23 July 1969, 22 July 1970, 28 July 1971, 26 July 1972, 25 July 1973, 24 July 1974, 28 July 1976, 27 July 1977, 26 July 1978, 25 July 1979, and 23 July 1980.
