This interview is part of a series about a series of football games called the Hairy Bacon Bowl that took place between University of Colorado students with counterculture leanings on the one hand, and campus and city police officers on the other hand, as a way to address those tensions. Bill Robbins, who was a campus police officer from 1968 to 1972, helped organize and played in the first two of these games. He brings the perspective of having been a Vietnam veteran and an older college student, as well as a campus police officer. He describes coming up with the idea for the games due to his desire to improve communications between the student and police groups, what it was like to play in the games, and how he thinks they were successful in their goal. He also talks about being on the police side of anti-war and other protests, hippies in town during that era, the sense of danger he sometimes experienced as a police officer, and his philosphy of how to defuse tense situations.

This interview is part of a series about three football games known as the Hairy Bacon Bowl, which occurred during the early 1970s. Participants included University of Colorado students who indentified with hippie culture and/or anti-war sentiment, versus campus and Boulder police officers. The games were seen as a way to address tensions between the two groups. Roger Walker, who was a CU student during that time, lived in the co-op called Cloud Nine and played in one of the games along with a number of fellow Cloud Nine residents. He talks about the football game and tells stories about student life and the politics and cultural ideals of the time, including the way opposition to the war in Vietnam and the ideals of hippie culture shaped people's ideas. He reflects on ways in which a technique similar to the Hairy Bacon Bowl games might be used to address current societal problems such as racial tensions.
