Duane Kraft grew up in the 1930s to 1950s in north Boulder. He learned hard rock mining techniques from his father and uncle as a child, then worked as a prospector and miner and also as a general contractor in partnership with his father until his father was nearly 90 years old. In this interview he talks extensively about prospecting and mining for uranium and gold in Boulder County, covering subjects such as locating veins of ore, mining equipment and techniques, safety, transportation of ore, ore processing, and the economics of mining. He also describes hunting for deer and big horn sheep, his military service, and working in construction as a general contractor.
