Entrances on north and south elevations., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This building is an excellent example of Art Moderne styling, which is very unususal in Boulder. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Large fraternity house/youth hostel with lower story of rough-faced stone and upper story covered with aluminum siding. Side gabled roof with flat gable and deck on rear portion of house. Gabled dormers, three on left front (original part of house) and gabled dormers which cut through eaves on right front (addition). Multi-paned windows. First story has segmental arched windows with red sandstone trim., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Although an addition in 1952 greatly enlarged this building, its original rusticated stone first story, multi-paned windows with segmental arches, and gabled dormers are still visible. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Two-story cross-gable roofed residence with wood shingle roofing. Lower walls are composed of evenly-coursed, narrow, rough faced stone; upper story has stuccoed walls. Projecting front gbled bay has stucco and half- timbering, as do side gable ends. Wooden belt course. Upper portion of front gabled bay projects slightly over lower and has brackets underneath., Small, gabled hood over entrance has stucco, half-timbering and exposed rafters. Stone porch walls. Inset door with stone lintel is glazed with multiple lights. Casement windows are rectangular, have four lights, and are placed in strips along the facade. Windows have shared stone sills. On south is one-story, shed roofed, open porch with stone walls and supports. Stucco and stone chimneys. Very large yard with mature landscaping., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This house is significant for its high degree of historic integrity and its high artistic values. The house is one of the best examples in Boulder of the Tudor Revival style, with its stone and stuccoed walls; cross- gable with stucco and half-timbering; tall, narrow windows with four lights placed in multiple groups; and gabled hood over inset entrance. This interview with Colorado's preeminent botanist, Dr. William A. Weber, includes eight interviews conducted over the span of nearly a year. Dr. Weber discusses his childhood, education, and early mentors; the development of his career as a botanist; botanical work, including teaching at the University of Colorado, his study of lichens and mosses, his development of a series of books about Colorado flora, and his development of the University of Colorado Herbarium; his extensive travel for botanical purposes, and his family life. The series of interviews ends with a display of Dr. Weber's African art collection and a tour of the CU Herbarium.

Gabled dormers with shingles and double-hung windows with small stained glass panes in upper sash surrounding larger pane. Molded cornices bound lower roof slope above and below. Eaves with decorative brackets below. Wide paneled cornice with modillions., First story has round arched windows with small stained glass panes and hoods. Shed roofed porch supported by slender, turned wood spindles with brackets. Wood porch floor. Center door which is paneled and glazed with round-arched, stained glass transom over. East side has one-story bay with small stained glass panes in segmental arched windows and decorative brackets under eaves. Open porch on east supported by turned wood spindles. Corbelled brick chimney, which has been painted, STYLE : French Second Empire., DATE BUILT : 1880., DESIGNATION : National Register eligible., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This is a rare example of the French Second Empire style in Boulder. The well-preserved house displays many elements of the style, including the shingled mansard roof, gabled dormers with stained glass panes, the wide cornice with brackets, the bay window, window hoods, and one story porches.

ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Front-gabled building, with gabled wall dormers on both sides. Unusual roofline -- gable roofs are shorter than main roofline. Widely overhanging eaves. All the gable ends are sided with regular cut shingles; and have small, Gothic-arched windows. Front gable end originally had a ribbon of four double-hungs which cut through the cornice line. ( One of the windows has been replaced with a door, and a new balcony has been built.), Similar triple windows on the side galbes. Brick walls; beltcoursing. Bay window on east. Wrap-around porch with hipped roof; columns; balustrade; wood floor. Stone foundation., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This finely crafted building is noteworthy for its unusual roofline. Although the porch and balcony have been remodeled, the building has a high degree of historic integrity. Architectural details on the house include Gothic-arched windows, a bay window, and a wrap-around porch. This building is an excellent example of Boulder's early twentieth century upper middle-class housing., DATE BUILT: 1904-1906., STYLE: Edwardian vernacular., ARCHITECT: C. H. Centered entry in angle where two wings intersect. Gabled, through-the-cornice dormers with flat brick lintels and multi-paned casement windows. Central dormer has brick quoins. Center entrance originally was open and had brick tab quoining., This entrance is now enclosed. Windows are flat arched, multi-paned casement with brick lintels and sills. Decorative brick quoins at corners and intersecting wings. South porch with round arched openings and brick quoining is enclosed., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This a rare example of the French Eclectic Style in Boulder. Although somewhat altered, this building is notable for its steeply pitched hipped roof which flares at the roof-wall junction; its gabled cut-through-cornice dormers; and its basement windows with brick sills and lintels. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Large, regularly coursed, rusticated stone dwelling. Projecting, polygonal, two-story tower on facade. Massive elliptical arched porch entrance with solid stone walls and pillars. Balcony above porch has wrought iron railing. Front gable end is shingled, features Palladian window and sawtooth cut vergeboards, and has pent roof enclosure. One- and-a-half story conical tower on north., On north and wouth, walls are gabled and have shingles and Palladian windows. Multi-paned oriel window on south. Building is constructed of red snadstone, with lighter stone trim lintels, and beltcourses. Stone chimneys., STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This residence is significant for its high artistic values reflected in its design and craftsmanship. The house is notable for its stone construction, its wide elliptical entry arch, its wrought iron trimmed balcony, the large projection, two-story polygonal tower of the facade, and its gable ends with singles and Palladian windows., The masonry, which is reflected in the regularly coursed, rusticated stone walls, stone arch, and window trim and belt courses, is of the highest quality. The house retains a high degree of historic integrity of both materials and setting.
