This newspaper's name changed over time; known as The Boulder County Herald, Boulder Daily Herald, Boulder Herald, and Boulder News-Herald. (Some issues actually have one of these names on the front page, and another on the top of the following pages.)
According to an article in the 2 May 1921 Boulder News-Herald: "The Rocky Mountain Eagle was established here in September of 1873, and two years to the month later sold to Wangelin and Tilney, the name being changed to the 'Banner'. In 1880, the partnership was dissolved, Tilney taking over complete charge. Wangelin, after retiring from the Banner, purchased a new plant and established 'The Boulder County Herald', issuing the first edition February 18, 1880." These early (pre-1897) Herald issues are currently available at the Carnegie only as loose published pages, or in bound volumes; stored in the Document Storage Room.
