This collection primarily contains reel-to-reel tapes kept at KBOL and KBVL radio station. The recordings have not been fully organized. The tapes will need to be reviewed to learn if the sound is still audible, and then digitized. Often the topic listed on the box does not correspond with the topic taped on the reel.

This collection includes:
BOX 1: Documents pertaining to the radio station.
BOXES 2-10: 87 Reel-to-reel tapes. These tapes are from the 1950s through 1985, many are undated and the programs are occasionally unknown.
Recordings that may be on these tapes include:
PEOPLE: Roz, Charlie Dieterle, 1980 CU faculty speaks, Timothy Leary, Sue Buck, Walter Hellen, Dick Fawley, Bob Palm, Bill Light, Rollinsville people, Richard Nixon, Tom Mason, Bob Butz, Bob Stearns, James Hunter (architect), Mayor Gillaspie, and Ronald Reagan.
EVENTS: 1951-52 Boulder-Denver Turnpike, 1951 City Hall dedication and 1952 opening ceremonies, undated train wreck, Boulder County Fair, Shakespeare Festival, 1966 Longmont airplane crash, Community Hospital ground-breaking ceremonies in 1953, 1966 dedication of the Engineering and Science Center, 1968 CU commencement, 1954 National Bureau of Standards dedication with a speech by President Dwight D. BOX 11: 17 recordings on wire. Topics include: flood control, freight train coming into Boulder, garden clubs, 1948 Christmas party, three dead in a plane crash west of Boulder, and Homer Pennock. Many of the labels are illegible. (1947-1954)
The following wire recordings were transferred to CDs by Smolian Sound Studios, Frederick, Maryland, in 2012: 1948 airplane crash on Navajo Peak. Jack Rook's Westinghouse advertisement. Mrs. Rudolph (Anna Belle) Olson talking to the Boulder Garden Club about carnations.

The radio station KBOL (1490 AM) was established in 1947 by Russel William Shaffer and two others. Ultimately Shaffer became the sole owner, and in 1971 he added KBVL (94.7 FM).
