This collection consists of photographs, documents, scrapbooks, and books that belonged to George W. Teal Jr. and his family.

The Teal family consisted of several of the most notable mining and civil engineers of Boulder County's history. The patriarch, George W. Teal Sr., born and reared in Manchester, England, arrived in Colorado in 1871, settling in the English "colony" of Georgetown with his family where he was superintendent of the Terrible mine. In 1881 he supervised the Caribou mine and in 1884 he was elected a Boulder County Commissioner. His sons, of which George W. Teal Jr. is the most noted, continued in his legacy.
Born in Manchester, England and educated at Cornwall and the School of Mining in Freiberg, Germany, George W. Teal Jr. played a major role in progressive mining by serving as partner, manager, surveyor, and consulting engineer for several mining companies within and without Colorado. In 1887 he was elected U.S. deputy mineral and land surveyor. From 1891-1898 he served as Boulder County surveyor and during his term, in 1894, married Francisca C. Price. In 1898 he was appointed "city engineer of the town of Boulder". And in 1928 he assumed the office of Boulder City Manager, an appointment he held until the time of his death. As one of Boulder's leading civil servants, George W. Teal Jr. is recognized for the eventual purchase of the City Hall site at 14th and Walnut, and the construction accessing Silver Lake's water supply.
