Photographs and documents of the ancestors of Mark A. Chance, including the Marvin and Geraldine Chance family, the Frank and Helen Johnson family, the John J. and Martha Harris family, the Nels M. and Eva P. Johnson family and others. Collection includes family photographs and photographs of Boulder Fire Department, Salina, Melvina Mine, and other miscellaneous locations around Boulder County. Two folders of documents include mostly newspaper clippings about Frank Johnson's service on the Boulder Fire Department.

Box 1 - Family portraits and snapshots, including: John J. and Martha Harris family; Nels M. and Eva P. Johnson and N.M Johnson Livery Feed; Frank and Helen (Harris) Johnson family; Emil and Inez Johnson; Melvin and Geraldine (Johnson) Chance family; Henry and Ruth (Harris) Nelson; Paul and Harry King and family; members of the Dickey family; and other unidentified people.
Box 2 - Photographs including: Salina; Melvina Mine and miners; Boulder Fire Department people, fire stations, fire wagons and trucks; Antlers Hotel in Nederland; Goss Cabin in Barker Meadows; Camp Albion; Boulder-Denver Truck Line; homes at 280 30th Street and 504 Marine Street, and miscellaneous views of Boulder and people (some identified, some not identified, most do not appear to be members of the Harris or Johnson families). Box 2 also includes two folders of newspaper clippings (many related to Frank Johnson and Boulder Fire Department) and family documents, not yet completely organized.
Box 3 - Photo album including more photographs of the families in box 1 and of the Boulder Fire Department. Also includes photographs of the Johnson family home at 435 Marine Street.

Frank J. Johnson was born in Boulder in 1889 to Nels M. and Eva Pearson Johnson. He married in Boulder in 1912 to Helen Harris. Frank served on the fire department for more than 50 years, retiring in 1960. He was appointed fire chief in April 1957 after the death of his brother, Fire Chief Emil Johnson. Frank and Helen appear to have had one child, Geraldine. Geraldine was married to Melvin Chance, and the couple had two children, Mark and Malinda (or Mindy).
John J. and Martha (Daring) Harris came to Boulder in 1877. The couple first lived in Salina where John was a miner and was affiliated with the Melvina Mine. They later moved to Boulder where they lived at 504 Marine Street. The couple appears to have had six children that survived to adulthood: George, William, Leta, Seibert, Mabel and Helen.
