The papers of Colorado author and poet laureate Clyde Robertson, including drafts of her poetry, short stories, essays, one-act plays, song lyrics and a novel; also scrapbooks of her career, correspondence, literary reviews of her works, notebooks, clippings and other materials about her professional activities and her appointment as Colorado Poet Laureate. This collection also includes art by Sheila Burlingame, daughter of Clyde Robertson, done to illustrate her poems.

Margaret Clyde Applegate was born in Franklin, Indiana in 1870. She was educated through high school in Lyons, Kansas. She came to Colorado in 1890, having divorced her first husband, George Ellsworth, whom she married in 1886. She remarried in 1897 to William Earl Robertson, and lived in Leadville for many years. She began her career as a singer of light opera, became a writer, and was appointed Colorado Poet Laureate in 1953 at the age of 83.
