This collection, gathered and donated by Mabel Downer Durning, consists of thirteen boxes of historical material on Allenspark, an additional oversize document box, three rolled maps, and a large poster. The maps are imprecise and were used to document the general area where various buildings once stood. The materials have been minimally organized. PLEASE open one folder at a time and return the documents and folders to the same location within the box.

Mabel Downer Durning was a descendant of Chicago Colony (Longmont) pioneers. Members of the Downer family have lived in Longmont and spent summers in the Allenspark area since 1872. She was instrumental in collecting historical information about Allenspark in the 1970s and 1980s.

Mabel Downer Durning began collecting these materials while writing "Historical Reminiscing in the Allenspark Area", published in 1975. Interest generated by her original researches led to additional material being collected, which was subsequently displayed at a Pioneer Day celebration held in Allenspark in 1976. Materials continue to be gathered and added to this collection.
