Description

This collection contains photographs and papers about African-Americans in Boulder County, Colorado. Included are family photographs of the McVey, Epperson, Lewis, Morrison, Reeves, and Lingham families; photographs and information about the African Methodist Episcopal Church and the Second Baptist Church of Boulder; and biographical information about Afro-American pioneers and early gold miners. Also newspaper clippings about Dearfield, Colorado, an African-American community in Weld County.

History

Charles H. Nilon was professor emeritus of English at the University of Colorado, Boulder and was director of the Black Studies Program.

All materials in this folder are from the private collection of Charles Nilon, although some unidentified photographs are from the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum.
