History
-
The K.E.G. Club was a secret fraternity of young business and professional men founded in 1907 by S. Arthur "Dad" Ridgeway as a Sunday school class, meeting in member's homes and later in the Presbyterian Church. The last meeting of record was on March 28, 1932 and the club disbanded in the late 1930's. In 1931, the club met at 1407 Pearl Street. Their last meeting place was at 1621 Walnut Street. See archivally reproduced newspaper clippings about the club and its reunions at 328-151-6.
What "K.E.G." stood for was to be a secret, and it appears that it will remain so. One man recalled that it represented "Knights of the Emerald Granite", another said "Knights of the Emerald Garter."
