Description

A beautifully prepared photograph album with locations hand written, and artistic embellishments drawn on many pages. The photographs focus on the lives of Rex Hieronymus and Wilma Graham. All of the pages have been numbered to preserve their original order. They have been rearranged for cataloging based upon the image locations. The photographs of locations outside Boulder County have not been digitized.

History

Rex Eugene Hieronymus was born in Illinois on 11 February 1895 to Robert E. and Lois C. Hieronymus. He appears to have had four siblings, Faith, Frantz, Grace and Robert C. According to the 1920 census for Boulder, Colo., Rex Hieronymus was listed as living with his aunt and uncle, Frank and Matilda Frantz, on Mapleton Avenue. He graduated from University of Colorado with an Engineering degree in 1922.
In 1923, Rex married Wilma Graham who attended the University of Colorado as a member of the class of 1922, but it is unclear whether or not she graduated. After graduation, Rex worked for General Electric in Schenectady, New York and the couple lived there for some years. In 1930, the couple lived in Proviso, Illinois, and in the 1940s Rex was a partner in a Chicago real estate company. They later moved to Denver, Colorado.
The couple had at least two children: Sharon, born in 1928 (married Keim) and Richard, born circa 1931. Rex died 29 January 1990 and Wilma died 5 June 1998 in Lakewood, Colorado. John Keim donated the album in 2007.

Description These are 72 pages of a 120-page photo album presumed to have been photographed and created by Rex E. Hieronymus circa 1918-1924. The most relevant pages to the Boulder area can be seen in records 578-1-1 through 578-1-27. These additional pages include: scenic views of the Boulder area and foothills; Estes Park; Mt. Rainier National Park; Arapahoe Glacier; Lewistown, Montana; Winnett, Montana; Pike's Peak and 1920 Pike's Peak Auto Hill-Climb; many sites around New York State, especially near Schenectady; Boston, MA and Washington, D.C. sites; snapshots of Wilma and Rex Hieronymus, family and friends; interior and exterior views of General Electric factory in Schenectady, New York including the Turbine Testing Department and engineers.

Description This is a Western Union telegram written in a humorous style to say the sender is not able to attend the receiver's graduation, ". . . though we have a realization of the important celebration that marks your innovation in the habiation of electrical vocation, to us your graduation is no revelation but is just a combination of your subjugation of electrical translation . . ." The "Received at" section of the telegram is somewhat confusing, listing both "Tulsa Okla, June 12 1922" and "Rex Hieronymus Sr, 1400 Broadway Boulder Colo," but from the content and the date of the telegram it is believed that the telegram was sent to Rex Hieronymus at the time of his graduation.
