Box 1 contains unique photographs from the collection of the Ebenezer Rowland family (envelopes 1-18) and from what appears to be the collection of Edna Harkins. Subjects include the Ebenezer Rowland family and friends, women hiking, and school children. Box 2 contains primarily duplicates made by Phyllis Smith from original photographs in the collections of the Carnegie Library for Local History.

Phyllis Smith is a historian and author who has written several books about the history of the Boulder area.
Ebenezer Rowland moved to Boulder in 1875 and became a gold miner, purchasing Black Cloud mine in Summerville in 1876 and going on to patent many other mines in the Summerville area.
Georgina Rowland, Ebenezer's daughter, taught for forty-three years in the Boulder schools, forty-one of those years at Mapleton School.
Edna Harkins taught in the Boulder schools for 56 years, beginning in 1912. She lived with Georgina Rowland at 2235 12th (Broadway) Street from circa 1926 until Georgina’s death in 1937 (based on Boulder city directories). Phyllis Smith appears to have known Edna Harkins.
