James and Olive Coburn Warren came to Boulder County ca. 1874. Their five sons, James Melvin, John E., Henry C., Chauncy Jerome, and Elmer E. mined in Jamestown, Balarat, Salina, Sunset, and Poor Man Hill.
Paul E. Warren was the son of Chauncy Jerome Warren, who came to Boulder from Nevada in the 1920s. Paul graduated from Boulder Preparatory School in 1928 and received a degree in civil engineering in 1932 from the University of Colorado. He was a civil engineer for the Federal Highway Administration and worked on the construction of forest and park highways at Rabbit Ears Pass, Mesa Verde National Park, Trail Ridge Road, and Berthoud Pass.
