Photographs and documents (including letters, business advertisements and other memorabilia) of the Berkley and Schons families including Mathias and Apollonia Schons, Hugo and Apollonia Berkeley, Nicholas and Mabel Schons, William Rusch, Cloudless Morning Berkley family and others.

Collection also includes some photographs of early Boulder views and events including: Pearl Street, Old Main and Varsity Lake, Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart of Mary Church, and the 1907 freight depot explosion.

This collection brings together two early Boulder families, the Berkleys and the Schons, through the ancestry of the donor's husband, Mathias C. Schons. Mathias and Apollonia Schons (Mathias C.'s grandparents) came to Boulder from Nebraska in 1896. They had five children: Susanna, Catherine, Mary, Nicholas (Mathias C.'s father), and Apollonia G. The Schons family became connected to the Berkley family through Apollonia G.'s 1933 marriage to Hugo Berkeley. Hugo was the son of Cloudless Morning (Sr.) and Jessie (Slater) Berkley and grandson of Judge Granville Berkley who came to Boulder in 1863 and was a prominent resident of early Boulder. It is believed that Hugo changed the spelling of "Berkley" to "Berkeley."
