FOLDER 3. A bound volume of miscellaneous material that someone titled "Historical Notes."
Section 1 - President's Annual Report, State Historical Society. Undated, but this ten-page report was probably written in 1944 by John Evans, President.
Section 2 - Four writings by Jean Kingsley, a University of Colorado student.
Section 3 - "Fiftieth Anniversary - Mount Sinai Commandery No. 7," thirty-nine pages written by Frederick L. Chase. It begins: "To me has been assigned the task of writing a brief biography of the men who have belonged to Mount Sinai Commandery."
Section 4 - Information on City of Boulder government officials, City Council proceedings, City finances, fire department, police department, ordinances, elections, city engineer, taxes, water, and miscellaneous city issues. The information was extracted from the "Boulder Town Records and Book One, November 4, 1871 to December 19th, 1876" by Marie E. Linehan.
Section 5 - J. E. Wharton's agreement of December 14, 1868, that he would "reside in Boulder and not remove his printing office for the space of one year," and that "if he should start a second paper at Valmont... shall not permit... agitation of removal of county seat of said Boulder County from where it is at present located."
Section 6 - Forty-five pages of information on the "Proceedings of the Board of County Commissioners for Jefferson County, Colorado Territory" in 1862.
Section 7 - A five page list of names that appeared in the early District Court records.
Section 8 - "Council Proceedings, City of Boulder. Book Four. April 17th, 1882 to June 14th, 1893." Lists the topic and page number on which the information may be found. Includes references to the building of and modifications to a jail, gas company, electric company, and water works.
Section 9 - "Council Proceedings, City of Boulder. Book Five. July 3, 1893 to June 20, 1900." Includes references to sewer plans, parks, telephone, prohibition, and the 12th Street Bridge.
Section 10 - "Council Proceedings, City of Boulder. Book Six. June 26, 1900 to April 15, 1907." Includes references to the Boulder Free Reading Room, City Hall, public parks, the street railway, and oil drilling.
Section 11 - "Council Proceedings, City of Boulder. Book Seven. April 15, 1907 to November 2, 1908." Includes references to the Denver and Interurban Railroad Company, parks, and the municipal electric plant.
Section 12 - "Council Proceedings, City of Boulder. Book Eight. November 2, 1908 to September 9, 1914." Includes references to "a voting machine ordered used as an experiment," "oiling streets as an experiment," the water system, that a pamphlet be prepared on tuberculosis, municipal lighting, and the request that a survey be done to determine ownership of the Flatirons.
Section 13 - Lists of names found in Boulder County court cases of the 1870's.
Section 14 - Notes on articles found in the Boulder County Pioneer, Vol.1 No.1 (February 10, 1869) through Vol.1 No. 31 (September 14, 1869). Includes marriages, births and deaths; mines and the names of the men who worked them; coal mining; references to mining towns of Jamestown and Sugar Loaf; the weather; mail service, irrigation ditches, the Boulder Reading Room, the "first circus to come to the Territory" on June 15, 1869; Indians, the existence of roads in the county.
Section 15 - Boulder Camera "Questionnaire for New American Guide." Eight pages.
Section 16 - Boulder County Pioneer questionnaire.
Section 17 - History of the Barber family's trip west in 1862, written by William H. Barber on October 14, 1932.
Section 18 - A long list of Boulder pioneers.
