Description

This collection contains the printed materials on the North Boulder Club, Boulder, Colorado, from the club's inception in 1936 to 1981.

Summary

Also included in this collection are newspaper clippings, pamphlets and programs of activities taking place at the State Preparatory School, Boulder, 1932-1935, and at the University of Colorado, Boulder, 1935-1939. Those were the dates of Mrs. Phillips' attendance at the two institutions.Obituaries of some of the members of the club have been included in the minute book. Mrs. Phillips' mother, Sadie O'Brien, was a charter member.

History

The North Boulder Club was established as a social club in 1936. Women of the First Christian Church of Boulder belonged to either "North Boulder Club" or "South Boulder Club", both of which functioned as church auxiliary groups.
In an effort to promote greater unity among the church club members, church officials reorganized the two clubs so that the women of North and South Boulder would be encouraged to socialize. The women of the North Boulder Club, having a strong sense of affinity with their own club members, established a new, non- church oriented North Boulder Club as an independent organization to protest the church action.
