Description: This collection contains magazine articles and newspaper clippings pertaining to Scott Carpenter's earth orbital flight in Aurora 7 in May 1962, as well as memorabilia related to a subsequent award he received from the University of Colorado.
History: Scott Carpenter was born in Boulder, Colorado on 1 May 1925, the only child of Dr. Marion Scott Carpenter, a chemist, and Florence Noxon Carpenter. The family resided at 907 7th Street ( the n.w. corner of 7th and Aurora), after which Carpenter named his spacecraft.
